Dalriada Tour of Scotland
11 Day Luxury Coach Tour
Starts September, 2003 and May 2004

The land of Dalriada (which now forms Argyll and Lorn) was where the first "SCOTS" arrived from Ireland, known as the Scotti tribe, they soon spread around this region and finally overcame the Picts to name the country after themselves ... Scot Land, land of the Scotti.

This tour takes you on a Dalriadan journey on Scotland's west coast.

Your Itinerary

Day 1.
We start our tour after leaving the airport by travelling north alongside the shores of Loch lomond, turning left at Tarbet and through the "rest and be thankful" pass up the mountains to Loch fyne, where we follow this - one of Scotland's longest sea lochs - to Lochgilphead where we break for a refreshment stop. Heading north again we make our way to Kilmartin Glen, an area of Scotland where people have lived, loved, farmed, hunted, played and prayed for perhaps 10,000 years. You will see the ancient hill fort of Dunadd, standing stones, burial cairns, and the graveyard at the village church, and if timew you may visit the museum here. Then it's on north to Oban for our hotel and evening meal. Famous for its sunsets, Oban has many pubs to enjoy a wee dram at tonight!

Day 2.
A deviation from Dalriada today, we take you to Loch Ness for a wee spot of monster hunting, returning through the infamous Glencoe scene of the massacre of MacDonals by the Campbells - always a dramatic stop over, beautiful scenery, thought provoking and majestic. Home again via Loch Awe and the Brander Pass, viewing Dunstaffnage Castle on our right, if time allows we will make a visit here before returning to your hotel in Oban.

Day 3.
A whole day trip to the Isles of Mull, Iona and Staffa. This trip takes you to the birthplace of Christianity here in Scotland, Iona, where St Columba landed to bring his religion to the Scots. With vastly changing scenery along our route, ending with the incredible rock formations at Staffa , a long day but well worth the effort before catching the ferry back to your Oban hotel for the night.

Day 4.
Leaving Oban we head north again through Fort William, Spean Bridge, and left at Invergarry via some of the Highlands most scenic routes on to Loch Duich, where we stop for a look at Eilean Donan castle, a spectacular loch side castle which has appeared in many movies. We end the day by crossing over the sea to Skye, the largest of the Inner Hebridean Islands, and on to your hotel for the night.

Day 5.
It's a full day out on Skye today, taking you on a circular route around the island, castles, mountains, glens, beaches, wildlife, Skye has it all in abundance - there is something for everyone here, a memorable day out. returning to your hotel on Skye.

Day 6.
We head south homeward bound today, with breathtaking scenery along our route, we head into Glasgow, where we take you on a city tour, before dropping you at your city centre hotel, some free time here, evening dinner and a good night's rest before your journey home next day.
