11 Day Luxury Coach Tour

Your Itinerary

Day 1.
Wednesday 20th August. From GLASGOW airport we take you to Stirling, a City steeped in history, for a guided tour and time to visit the Castle and both Bruce and Wallace Monuments. Late afternoon we head to our capital Edinburgh, where we check into the hotel. Dinner is included this evening. For those guests wishing to explore Edinburgh at night we will arrange transport into the city which is just a few minutes by coach.

Day 2.
We head into old Edinburgh for a fully guided coach tour of the City and tour of the Castle. You have free time in the City until early evening, when we head back to our hotel. It's Tattoo night tonight! Remember - dinner is included at the hotel, any guests wishing to remain in town from this morning's visit may do so, we will meet up later on before the Tattoo event.

Day 3.
All points south this morning - we head for the Borders driving through Eddleston, Peebles including a visit to Neidpath Castle. We then continue our tour through historic Melrose, Selkirk, Kelso and a brief stop at Flodden - scene of a 16th century battle, and Scotland's greatest ever loss! Our day is completed in the Dumfries/Galloway region where we stay overnight. There are numerous restaurants and bars within walking distance.

Day 4.
Our day starts at Caerlaverock Castle a uniquely built in a triangular pattern. From here we head for Rabbie Burns country and show you the sights. We will give you the taste and the ghostly experiences of one of Scotlandıs most famous sons. After a visit to Culzean Castle (time permitting) we stop at an ancient burial cairn and standing stones - we will keep you on the go all day! Then we check into our hotel in Ayr for the evening.

Day 5.
Sunday 24th August. After a big breakfast we head north to Crieff to visit the Famous Grouse Distillery where you will have a tour and ample opportunity to sample our National Nip! It's then on to Perth - the 'Fair City'which has much to offer, three castles, museums, Scone Palace, shops, restaurants, bars, gardens and riverside walks. We will make a programme of sightseeing for today and give you chance to select what you wish to see and do. We're at The Royal George Hotel, Perth tonight - given it's Royal title after a stay by Queen Victoria! A Ceilidh will be arranged locally tonight.

Day 6.
Monday 25th August. Any golf enthusiasts amongst our tour? Today we are paying a visit to St Andrews, the Home of Golf. With free time here in town maybe visit the ruined Abbey and Castle, the harbour, have a photo taken at the Old Course, stroll around the shops and see this historic town at ground level. (Sorry, not time enough for golf, but should any of you wish a round please enquire before you leave USA and we can arrange it.) Around noon we then take you over the Tay Bridge and head north west through Coupar Angus, Blairgowrie through dramatic Glenshee. We arrive here in the picturesque village of Braemar approx 2pm. Either visit the Castle, walk around the village or maybe take in lunch. Itıs then back to Perth via the ancient town of Dunkeld once the Religious Capital of Scotland. Here we see the ruined Abbey on the banks of the Tay, look over to Birnham Wood - any recollecting the story of MacBeth will recognise this! We aim to arrive back at the Royal George 6pm.

Day 7.
Tuesday 26th August. Following the River Tay to the North Sea, we take the coastal road passing Carnoustie, Montrose and on to Stonehaven. We will stop at Dunnottar Castle, a spectacular sight perched high above the sea. After time here we head for a wee dram! Whisky is on the agenda this afternoon... with so many distilleries to choose from, we will keep it a secret and take you to one of our favourites, you are sure to enjoy it. With our route taking in a castle or two we wind our way to Craigellachie and to our hotel for the night. Dinner is included.

Day 8.
Wednesday 27th August. Battles and Monsters today! A visit to the world famous Culloden Battlefield this morning, scene of the last battle fought on British soil between Bonnie Prince Charlie and the English in 1746. A tragic end to the hopes of the Prince! A memorable experience here is followed by a visit to Clava Cairns. Inverness then beckons, we drop you off in town for some free time. It's then over the bridge to the Black isle and to Dingwall and Dornoch for some sightseeing, before taking you back to Craigellachie. A Burns Dinner with Piper and Haggis will be included followed by some Traditional Scottish entertainment.

Day 9.
Thursday 28th August. Today we head down the shores of Loch Ness along to Urquhart Castle, the widest and deepest part of the Loch where most of the 'monster'sightings have taken place. Continuing along the Loch we detour to Glenfinnan where we stop at the Monument to the Jacobites 'out' in the '45 rebellion. With an incursion into Glencoe (as one American visitor said 'tragic but magic!') - we stop here briefly before following the route along through Appin to Oban, where we stay overnight.

Day 10.
Friday 29th August. You final day - a long and interesting one! We charter a boat from Oban to the jetty at Duart Castle, Isle of Mull. We visit the ancient seat of the Macleans, see the dungeon, the main hall, swords and weaponry etc. After marvelling at the views from the battlements we head back to Oban. It's then south to Kilmartin Glen, where the first Scots lived. We will see the ancient hill fort, the standing stones and burial cairns before we head down Loch Fyne. We have a comfort stop at Inveraray before taking the pass 'rest and be thankful 'to Loch Lomond. From here it's an hour or so to Glasgow our largest city. A huge choice of restaurants and bars for your evening meal available within walking distance.

Day 11.
Saturday 30th August. We take you back to Glasgow airport for your connecting flight.
